About The Help

The Help(KC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit empowering underserved and system-impacted women through our HEC programs: Housing, Employment, and Credit. We provide resources, education, and support to help women overcome barriers, achieve economic stability, and build thriving, independent lives.

Our Mission

The Help(KC) advances economic justice by providing system-impacted and underserved women with HEC resources: Housing, Employment, and Credit Growth, to ensure long-term stability and financial independence.

Our Vision

We envision The Help(KC) as a growing and sustainable organization where women are no longer defined by their past but are empowered through our HEC programs: Housing, Employment, and Credit Growth to build a future of economic stability, personal growth, and holistic well-being: socially, spiritually, physically, mentally, and financially.

The Founder/CEO

Candance J. Wesson is an entrepreneur, Founder/CEO of The Help(KC), and the program developer of What the HEC?, a women’s economic empowerment program supporting housing, employment, and credit growth. As a DIY credit coach, she is personally dedicated to helping women achieve 700+ credit scores, giving them the confidence and financial freedom to thrive.

A system-impacted individual herself, Candance understands the challenges women face after incarceration. Since 2012, she has worked to empower women through reentry programs, financial education, and community support, advocating for second chances and economic independence.

Candance was honored with the 2019 Champion of Justice Award by the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center for her work supporting women in reentry. As the former Dignity Ambassador for Missouri at Dreamcorps Justice (now Dream.Org), her efforts led to the passage of the #DignityForIncarceratedWomen law in Missouri in July 2021, ensuring that all women in Missouri jails and prisons receive free, quality feminine hygiene products.  She currently serves on the Federal Advisory Council for Dream.Org and is also a former Governing Board Member of the Community Safety Partnership Board, where she served alongside the Mayor, Police Chief, and Jackson County Prosecutor.

Candance is a wife and mother of three children. She enjoys spending time with her family and has a passion for football, fashion, and home décor.

Through The Help(KC) and the What the HEC? programs, Candance continues to advocate for empowering system-impacted and underserved women by providing the resources and support they need to achieve economic success through housing, employment, financial stability, including helping them build strong credit and financial confidence to achieve long-term economic success.

Candance will continue to advocate for the mission of The Help(KC)—empowering system-impacted, low-income women by providing the resources and support they need to achieve economic success through employment, homeownership, and financial stability.
